If you’re a very busy, multitasking person, you’re probably always looking for ways to make you work-out more efficient and get a better night’s sleep. While pedometers and sleep trackers have been around for a while, a wave of new devices is hitting the market that multi-track – monitoring not just one function, but rather a lifestyle.
These gadgets are so slim and unobtrusive that’s it’s easy to go about your day without even realizing you have them on. Here are a few of the ones I think you’ll find the most innovative, convenient, and helpful.
Jawbone Up, $TBD: This brand which is known for its stylish Bluetooth pieces and speakers is expanding into mobile lifestyle products. Coming soon, this flexible, and in my opinion, pretty fashionable, bracelet tracks your sleep, movement, and eating habits around the clock. The information is then offloaded to a free app which they claim will offer useful suggestions for improving your lifestyle . We’ll have to wait and see what this entails!
Fitbit, $100: Similar in looks to a belt clip, Fitbit tracks calories burned, steps taken, distances traveled, and your sleep quality. You can easily attach it to any piece of clothing or clip it into the wristband that comes with it.
Philips DirectLife, $150: Wear it as a necklace or put it in your pocket – either way this activity monitor tracks body motion. It comes with a personal coach and website so you can monitor your progress and get the support you need.
Body Media, $250: This armband tracks calories burned, steps taken, time spent in physical activity, and sleep duration and efficiency. With the associated online activity manager and free downloadable apps, you can monitor and adjust your weight loss progress. You personal coach is available to answer your questiosn and help you tailor your weight loss program to fit your lifestyle and circumstances.
Having accurate information on your activity levels, caloric intake and outtake, and sleep patterns, can help you have a healthier lifestyle, in turn reducing the likelihood you’ll develop heart disease and other diseases.
So what are you waiting for? Pick up a digital coach and start feeling better.
